Parge Nagar residents have been fighting for adequate water supply for the last ten years. Every time they are left with only promises from the Pune Municipal Corporation. But the continuous increase in the population has left the taps dry most of the times, for the residents mainly from Kumar Suraksha, DSK Garden enclave, Kumar Sublime, Yash Rhythm and many others. Col V P Mane, secretary, Kumar Suraksha said, “Before the year 2010 we used to receive water supply for 24 hours with good pressure. But in the last one decade, the water supply and pressure has dropped drastically keeping us dependent on water tankers, private as well as PMC. In the last year, we exhausted over 20 lakh rupees only on procuring water tankers. How far can we stretch extra money only for water, for no fault of us.” Â
Prasanna Kulkarni, a resident of Kumar Suraksha said, “I informed Pawaskar that our main issue is of irregular water with poor pressure. We procure atleast 18 to 20 tankers everyday. Our expenses rise to Rs 20 lakh per month. PMC should resolve our issue permanently and relieve us from this dependency on private as well as PMC water tankers.”Â

Sainath Babar, local corporator, Prabhag 27 who took the residents to meet the PMC water department head, Aniruddha Pawaskar, told Pune Pulse said “The residents of the area have been in great discomfort due to shortage of PMC water supply. In the month of January, the societies are fully dependent on tanker water. Imagine the pain and discomfort these residents will have to be in the peak summer. I have proposed to Aniruddha Pawaskar, the head of PMC water supply department to increase the water supply from Lashkar water works to bakri hill. This will help them to get a little extra water with good pressure. Pawaskar has asked for a time period of 15 days to 2 months to resolve the problem completely.”
When Pune Pulse Spoke To Aniruddha Pawaskar, Superintending Engineer, Water Supply Department, He Said, “At Present, Our Planning Is To Work On The Distribution Of Water In The Bhama Askhed Water Scheme. Once That Finishes We Can Think Of Planning For Extra Water Which Will Remain From Lashkar Water Supply Which Can Be Further Pumped To Bakri Hill Water Tank. All This Will Take Atleast Two Three Months Of Time To Regularise The Water Supply.”Â

Rohan Gaikwad, president, NIBM Prabhag, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) said, “Residents of Parge Nagar from Prabhag 26 have been dependent on water tankers mostly. PMC has failed to provide them with adequate water supply. This has resulted in their dependency on private water tankers which is making their financial calculations go haywire. Sainath Babar and myself have asked the water department to regularise the supply and provide them water for a longer duration and good pressure. We met Aniruddha Pawaskar who has assured to resolve the issue within 15 days to 2 months period. We are hopeful that the problem shall not exceed beyond two months period. At present, Pawaskar sir has assured them to provide with water tankers to meet their daily water requirements from PMC water tankers.”
