Palghar: A man’s body was found hidden under newly laid floor tiles at his home in Nallasopara, Palghar district. Police believe he was murdered by his wife and her lover, who are now missing.

The man has been identified as Vijay Chouhan, 34. His body was found in a decomposed state on Monday. Police have filed a case of murder and are searching for his wife, Chaman Devi (28), and her alleged lover Monu Sharma (20), who was their neighbour.

Chouhan’s two brothers had tried to contact him on July 10 as they needed money. When they couldn’t reach him, they went to his house. His wife told them that he had gone out for work. Later, when they tried calling again on July 19, both Vijay and his wife were unreachable.

When the brothers visited the house again, they noticed new tiles on the floor. They became suspicious and removed some of the tiles. A bad smell was coming from underneath, so they informed the police.

Police arrived with doctors and officials. They dug up the floor and found Chouhan’s body. It was sent to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for a postmortem.

Neighbours told police that Vijay was last seen on July 10, and his wife had also been missing since July 19. Police believe the wife killed him with the help of her lover and escaped. One more person from the same area may also be involved.

Police are still investigating how and why the murder happened.
