Pune: The National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) has launched a ‘Living Lab’ to help pharmaceutical companies reduce their carbon footprint and adopt green manufacturing processes. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the UK-based CPI, aims to provide advanced data and process solutions to minimize risks and lower greenhouse gas emissions in drug manufacturing.

The state-of-the-art facility will support companies in transitioning to solvent-free and continuous production methods, significantly reducing hazardous waste. Several pharmaceutical firms have already joined the initiative, which is expected to enhance India’s sustainability efforts and improve access to European markets by meeting global environmental standards.

Dr. Ashish Lele, Director of NCL, emphasized that the Living Lab will help the chemical and pharmaceutical industries adopt emerging green technologies, reduce wastewater discharge, and facilitate the shift from traditional to modern manufacturing techniques. Dr. Arun Harish, Chief Strategy Officer at CPI, highlighted that this project could decarbonize the pharmaceutical sector and boost production efficiency.
