With clouds drifting low and waterfalls in full flow, it becomes one of the best destinations for a quick nature-filled getaway. If you’re planning a one-day monsoon trip from Lonavala, here are the must-visit spots, each offering a unique experience.

1. Karla Caves and Ekvira Devi Temple
Located about 11 km from Lonavala, Karla Caves are ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves dating back to the 2nd century BCE. These caves showcase intricate carvings, large prayer halls (chaityas), and stupas, testaments to early Buddhist architecture in India. Right next to the caves is the Ekvira Devi Temple, a revered pilgrimage site for the Koli fishermen community. The climb of around 300 steps is especially refreshing during the rains, with greenery all around and cool mountain mist in the air.

3. Kune Waterfalls
Situated near the famous Bushi Dam and between Lonavala and Khandala, Kune Waterfalls is one of the tallest in Maharashtra, with a drop of over 200 meters across three tiers. Surrounded by dense forest and hills, this waterfall is especially majestic during the rains. While swimming isn’t recommended due to strong currents, you can enjoy the misty breeze and views from a safe distance. It’s also a great picnic spot if the weather holds up.

4. Celebrity Wax Museum, Lonavala
For a fun indoor experience amidst the rains, head to Sunil’s Celebrity Wax Museum, located near the old Mumbai-Pune Highway. It features wax statues of famous personalities including Virat Kohli, A.R. Rahman, Mahatma Gandhi, Amitabh Bachchan, and more. The museum is family-friendly, affordable, and allows you to take photos with your favorite stars,  making it a popular stop for tourists.

Bonus Tip:
If time permits, make a quick detour to Bushi Dam, where overflowing waters create a dramatic visual. But be cautious, the area can get crowded and slippery during peak monsoon hours. Arrive early or opt for weekdays to avoid rush.
