Among the 124 coastal residents involved in the study, only 3 to 4 individuals were diabetic, compared to nearly 30% in communities that primarily consumed freshwater fish. Additional findings showed that regular intake of Bhola Bhetki could significantly reduce blood sugar levels, help maintain healthy blood pressure, and potentially ease symptoms related to heart disease, joint inflammation, and even menstrual pain.
Animal trials further supported these claims, showing a clear reduction in blood glucose levels in lab rats that were given Bhola Bhetki-based diets. This breakthrough research didn’t go unnoticed. The work of Professor Srabanti Patra and her team was acknowledged and honoured at the West Bengal Science and Technology Congress 2023, cementing Bhola Bhetki’s status as a nutritional powerhouse.
