Twenty-day-old cub rescued by local resident, now under veterinary care as forest officials launch reunion attempt

A 20-day-old leopard cub in Himachal Pradesh is set to be reunited with its mother after a heartwarming rescue that has captured social media’s attention. Video footage showing the tiny feline travelling in a car went viral over the weekend, melting hearts across the country.

The cub was discovered shivering and alone by Ankush Chauhan, a resident of Kothkai. When the mother did not return and the threat of wild dogs loomed, Chauhan decided to act. He carefully placed the cub in his car and contacted forest officials, who instructed him to deliver it to the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) in Theog.

On arrival, the cub stressed but otherwise healthy, was examined by a veterinarian, who confirmed all vitals were normal. According to the DFO, instead of transferring the cub to a zoo or sanctuary, the priority will be to reunite it with its mother. Forest staff plan to monitor the area for three days to facilitate the reunion. If the attempt fails, the cub will be moved to a secure location for long-term care.
