LPG Cylinder Prices to Increase by ₹50 Starting April 8
Starting Tuesday, April 8, LPG prices will increase by ₹50 per cylinder across India. The price hike applies to both Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries and non-Ujjwala domestic consumers, according to an official notification released by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
This increase comes amid rising global energy prices and is expected to impact millions of households relying on LPG for daily cooking needs.
The new pricing will be effective from Tuesday morning and will reflect in all retail gas agency outlets across the country.
Under the PMUY scheme, the government provides subsidized LPG connections to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families to promote the use of clean cooking fuel in rural India. However, despite the subsidy support, the increase in refill cost may add to the financial burden on economically weaker sections.
The last revision in LPG prices was in March 2025, when rates were left unchanged following earlier reductions. With this fresh hike, the average 14.2 kg LPG cylinder will now cost significantly more, depending on the city and state taxes.
Oil marketing companies (OMCs) regularly review LPG prices based on international benchmark rates and foreign exchange fluctuations. The government has not announced any new subsidy adjustments in response to this latest price hike.
Consumers are advised to check with their local gas agencies for updated rates specific to their region. This move is likely to spark fresh debates over fuel pricing and its impact on household budgets.
