Maa Toh Maa Hoti Hai! 35-Year-Old Mom Inspired by Kids, Sits for SSC Exam
In a heartwarming real-life tale straight out of Bollywood, 35-year-old Aarti Irkal is proving that dreams have no expiry date. Inspired by her teenage children, she recently appeared for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination at Vimalabai Garware School near Deccan Gymkhana, defying societal norms and personal hurdles to chase her long-lost academic dreams.
A Mother’s Determination to Rewrite Her Destiny
Aarti’s journey back to education is nothing short of inspiring. The mother of two, Divyani (19) and Harsh (17), who successfully cleared their SSC exams earlier, found herself drawn to books once again, proving that learning knows no age limit.
“Inspired by my children’s dedication towards studies, I realized it’s never too late to chase one’s dreams,” said Aarti, who was forced to discontinue her education in the 9th grade due to financial difficulties and early marriage.
Breaking Barriers, One Exam at a Time
At an examination center filled with teenage aspirants, Aarti stood out not just because of her age but for her undying resolve. Overcoming the initial awkwardness of studying alongside students her children’s age, she took on the challenge head-on, balancing household chores and academic preparations with the support of her family.
Her daughter Divyani, now a first-year BA Psychology student, played a crucial role in her journey. “Mom has always been our strength, but now we have become her strength too. We studied together, and I helped her with Mathematics and Science,” she shared proudly.
A Ripple Effect of Inspiration
Aarti’s bold step has not only changed her life but also influenced her extended family. “Initially, some of our relatives were surprised, but after seeing my mom’s determination, they too are considering open schooling,” said Divyani.
Her husband has been her pillar of support, taking on additional household responsibilities so she can focus on her studies. “This journey would not have been possible without my family’s backing,” Aarti acknowledged.
The Road Ahead: From SSC to Teaching Dreams
With her final papers approaching, Aarti is already setting her sights higher. “After clearing SSC, I want to pursue higher studies, complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and become a language teacher,” she revealed, determined to turn her newfound academic enthusiasm into a fulfilling career.
Aarti Irkal’s story is a testament to the fact that education knows no boundaries and that inspiration can flow both ways—between parent and child. Her journey is an example of perseverance, proving that it’s never too late to script a new chapter in life.
