Madhuri Dixit reflects on her decision to quit acting and marry stating: "I was living my dream."
Madhuri Dixit shares her thoughts on her choice to step away from acting at the height of her career to marry Dr. Shriram Nene, stating. When people asked, “Oh, you were away, didn’t you miss it?”, I responded, “Not at all, I didn’t miss anything because I was busy living my dream.”
In a recent interview with Galatta India, Madhuri expressed her contentment with her choice to marry Dr. Shriram Nene and establish her life overseas.
The actress has enjoyed a diverse and lengthy career spanning several decades, although she surprised many of her fans in the late 1990s when she chose to step away from acting at the height of her success to enter into marriage.
“I was very happy because for me, the paraphernalia was not very important to me. I loved what I did. I love acting, dancing, and everything to do with my profession. Anything else is just a bonus like people considering you as a star. But I haven’t ever felt that way about me. So for me, it was never like, ‘Oh my god, I am going away from the public eye. I am getting married at the peak of my career.’ I never thought of it that way,” says Madhuri.
Madhuri entered into marriage with Shriram, a medical professional, in 1999. After stepping away from her acting career, she moved to the United States, where she resided for more than ten years.
Dr. Shriram Nene, her husband, shared insights about their relationship in a discussion with Ranveer Allahbadia.
“I don’t know her like that (superstar). She is my wife and partner, and my encouragement to people is to be what you always wanted to be and support the people with you. We are partners in a marriage where we look out for each other forever. If you develop that kind of relationship, it doesn’t matter what they did. I never knew her history and she never knew mine. We came from very different worlds yet similar… I would say this is the most amazing thing in my life,” he says.
