Reports indicate that the Kumbh Mela in 2027 is scheduled to occur from July 17 to August 17.
The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, recognized as one of the largest religious assemblies globally, wrapped up on Wednesday following 45 days of festivities in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
This year’s event achieved a remarkable milestone, with nearly 66 crore devotees participating in the sacred bathing at the Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the legendary Saraswati converge. Notably, the Kumbh Mela attracted twice the number of pilgrims compared to the total population of the United States, which stands at approximately 34 crore.
Numerous Bollywood stars, such as Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, and Vicky Kaushal, were present at the religious event. Additionally, Chris Martin, the lead vocalist of Coldplay, also attended.
The gathering saw the participation of at least 118 diplomats representing 77 different countries. Some of India’s prominent politicians were among the participants.
 Kumbh Mela -Locations
Kumbh Melas take place in four cities: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain, with at least one event organized every three years.
The event that occurs every four years is referred to as Kumbh Mela, while the fair held every six years is known as Ardh Kumbh Mela.
The mela that is conducted every 12 years is called Purna Kumbh Mela, and the recently concluded event was the Maha Kumbh Mela, which is believed to happen after a span of 144 years.
The Kumbh Mela tradition operates on a defined schedule. The Poorn Kumbh Mela, celebrated in Prayagraj, is the most prominent and largest of the Kumbh festivals, occurring once every 12 years. The upcoming Poorn Kumbh is set for 2036.
In addition, the Maha Kumbh Mela, which is celebrated every 144 years, is scheduled for 2169. This event is considered the most sacred and rare of all, with the last occurrence prior to 2025 taking place in 1881 at Prayagraj.
The upcoming Kumbh Mela
The upcoming Kumbh Mela is scheduled for 2027 in Nashik, Maharashtra. This significant religious gathering will take place at Trimbakeshwar, situated around 38 kilometers from Nashik. The city lies along the banks of the Godavari River, which is the second-longest river in India. Additionally, it is renowned for the Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presented an ambitious vision for the incorporation of advanced technology into the 2027 Nashik Kumbh Mela. He emphasized that technology would be instrumental in allowing individuals who are unable to physically bathe in the sacred waters to have a virtual experience of it.
For individuals organizing their pilgrimages, the following Ardh Kumbh Melas are set to take place over the next ten years, as outlined by Acharya Panday. Acharya Lalmani Panday, is the chief priest of Devi Mandir in Panipat, which is thought to have been established by the Pandavas during the Mahabharata period.
