Ahead of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections, scheduled for November 20, the Maharashtra State Government has issued a directive requiring all establishments under the Department of Industries, Energy, and Labour to grant leave to employees on polling day. The move aims to ensure all workers can exercise their voting rights.

Shailendra Pol, Additional Labour Commissioner for Pune Division, stated that action will be taken against any establishment that fails to comply. If employees are not permitted to vote and complaints are received, the government will intervene. In cases where a full-day leave is not feasible, companies must provide a two-to-three-hour concession for employees to vote. This must be approved by the District Collector and District Election Officer.

The circular mandates that all eligible workers, officials, and employees in polling areas, including those working outside their home constituencies, should be given leave. The directive applies to a variety of establishments, such as factories, shops, private companies, hotels, restaurants, theaters, IT firms, malls, and retailers.
