Maharashtra minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nitesh Rane called for a prohibition on wearing burqas during the upcoming state board examinations for Std 10th and 12th next month.
In a letter addressed to the school education minister Dada Bhuse, he expressed concerns that permitting female candidates to don a burqa in examination halls might result in unethical practices and pose security risks.

“Students taking the 10th and 12th board exams should not be allowed to wear a burqa. If needed, female police officers or female personnel should be assigned to perform inspections. These examinations are vital for the students’ future, and it is essential that they are carried out transparently, without any form of cheating or malpractice,” the letter read.
“If examinees are allowed to wear burqas, it will be difficult to determine whether electronic devices or other means are being used to cheat. In case of any untoward incident, it could lead to social and law-and-order issues, affecting many students,” informs Rane.
“The religious attire should be restricted to homes and places of worship. If others are not bringing their religious attire to schools or colleges, why should Muslims be allowed to do so? Keep your religion at your home and in your religious places. This is a Hindutva government, and there is no need to appease anyone,” adds the minister.
Rane, the MLA representing Kankavli, is the Minister of Ports Development in Maharashtra. According to officials, the school education ministry has not yet addressed his request.
The Maharashtra Secondary School Certificate examination for Class 10 is scheduled to commence on February 21. Meanwhile, the Higher Secondary Certificate examination for Class 12 will begin on February 11.
