Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Key Decisions: Cancer Care Policy, Global Capability Centre Push, MahaGeoTech Corporation, Solar Irrigation Fund Boost, and New Civil Court
Mumbai, September 30, 2025 – At a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Maharashtra government approved five significant decisions across health, industry, technology, energy, and judiciary.
1. Comprehensive Cancer Care Policy & MAHACARE Foundation
To strengthen cancer treatment services across the state, the cabinet approved the establishment of the Maharashtra Cancer Care, Research and Education Foundation (MAHACARE). Under a three-tier structure, 18 hospitals will provide advanced facilities including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, diagnostics, surgeries, palliative care, and research. Tata Memorial Hospital will serve as the apex Level-1 centre, with six government medical colleges designated as Level-2, and nine hospitals as Level-3 centres. The foundation will receive an initial ₹100 crore capital, alongside funding through Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, CSR, donations, and clinical trials.

2. Maharashtra Global Capability Centre Policy 2025
A new policy aims to establish 400 Global Capability Centres (GCCs) across the state by 2030, attracting investments of ₹50,600 crore and generating around 4 lakh jobs. The policy focuses on Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities like Nashik, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, covering sectors such as IT, defence, renewable energy, and biotechnology.

3. Establishment of MahaGeoTech Corporation
The state approved the creation of MahaGeoTech Corporation to strengthen development planning using geospatial technology. The new body will function alongside the existing Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Centre (MRSAC), with 106 new posts sanctioned and ₹25 crore allocated.
4. Additional Electricity Sales Tax for PM-KUSUM Scheme
To fund the Prime Minister’s KUSUM solar irrigation pump scheme, the cabinet approved a hike in Additional Tax on Sale of Electricity (ToSE) from 11.04 paise to 20.94 paise per unit. The scheme aims to install 6.5 lakh solar pumps across Maharashtra, of which 4.23 lakh are already operational.
5. Senior Civil Court in Phaltan, Satara
A new Senior Civil Court has been approved for Phaltan to improve access to justice. The court will have 21 regular posts and 4 contractual positions, with an allocation of ₹1.84 crore for salaries and operations.
