Chandrapur-based Maharogi Seva Samiti Receives Immediate Government Aid For Leprosy Rehabilitation And Disability Welfare Projects

Mumbai, January 14, 2025: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar has directed the immediate release of ₹3.08 crore to Anandvan’s Maharogi Seva Samiti to alleviate its financial crisis. This allocation includes ₹1.86 crore for leprosy patient treatment and rehabilitation and ₹1.22 crore for the Anand Blind, Speech And Hearing Impaired and Sandhiniketan workshops for the disabled. Following Pawar’s prompt intervention, the funds were swiftly disbursed, offering relief to the organization established 75 years ago by the late Baba Amte and Sadhanatai Amte.

The financial difficulties of the institution were highlighted by Dr. Vikas Amte, Secretary of the Maharogi Seva Samiti, during its platinum jubilee year. The organization, founded in 1949 in Warora, Chandrapur district, has been a beacon of social commitment, providing medical care and rehabilitation for leprosy patients while also supporting individuals with disabilities, orphans, and destitutes.

Maharogi Seva Samiti currently oversees projects in rural areas, caring for over 1,500 individuals, including leprosy-cured persons, elderly citizens, and mentally challenged individuals. It also runs residential schools and vocational training centers that educate and train 300 disabled students and provides educational facilities for 3,500 underprivileged students from rural areas.
