Maharashtra Extends Deadline for HSRP Installation on Old Vehicles to August 15; Strict Action After Deadline

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has extended the deadline for installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on old vehicles to August 15, 2025, warning that strict action will be taken against violators after this date.
This is the third time the deadline has been extended for vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. Initially set for March 31, the deadline was later extended to end of April, then to June 30, and now to August 15.
According to the state transport department, there are an estimated 2.10 crore old vehicles registered in Maharashtra. However, in the past six months, only 23 lakh vehicles have had HSRP installed.
In an official statement, the Transport Commissioner’s office said:
“From August 1, enforcement teams will begin taking action against vehicles without HSRP. However, vehicle owners with valid appointments booked before August 15 will not be penalized.”
Vehicle owners are advised to visit the official website https://transport.maharashtra.gov.in to book appointments for HSRP installation.
After a long tender process, the department assigned the responsibility of installing HSRP on 2.10 crore vehicles to three authorized companies. The installation drive officially began in December 2024, with a four-month window initially given to vehicle owners, ending on March 31.
