Maharashtra: FDA Launches Special Festive Food Safety Drive Across Maharashtra
Mumbai: To ensure citizens in Maharashtra have access to pure and wholesome food during the festive season, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has launched a special inspection campaign. Guided by Food and Drug Administration Minister Narhari Zirwal and Minister of State Yogesh Kadam, the “Festive Season Special Inspection Campaign” will be implemented across the state.
As part of this initiative, a training program for food business operators will be held on August 13, 2025, at 11:00 am at Yashwantrao Chavan Centre, Nariman Point, Mumbai, according to FDA Joint Commissioner Mangesh Mane. The program will be inaugurated by Minister Narhari Zirwal and attended by Minister of State Yogesh Kadam, Secretary Dheeraj Kumar, FDA Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar, and other dignitaries.
The campaign will run from August 11 to October 25, focusing on three main aspects under food safety—awareness, publicity, and enforcement. Food business operators have been urged to comply with all legal provisions.
During festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Eid, Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali, the demand for sweets, modaks, festive snacks, and prasad increases significantly. This surge in demand sometimes leads to the production and sale of substandard or adulterated food items, posing risks to public health. To address this, the FDA will conduct workshops on food hygiene for public Ganesh mandals, sweet makers, modak and snack manufacturers, and women’s self-help groups.
Citizens can report complaints regarding food quality and standards to the toll-free number 1800-222-365, Joint Commissioner (Food) Mangesh Mane added.
