New Delhi: India is preparing for a large-scale mock military drill simulating wartime conditions, set to take place on May 7 across 244 locations nationwide, including 16 in Maharashtra. The Union Home Secretary held a meeting with all state home secretaries to coordinate the exercise.

This civil defence mock drill will include training on airstrike alerts, crash blackouts, and emergency response protocols. Citizens will be educated on how to protect themselves and assist others during a simulated enemy air raid. The exercise is part of India’s strategic preparedness against potential external threats.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has released a list of cities participating in the drill, categorised into three zones. Many cities near India’s borders and strategic installations are included.

  • Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nashik, Uran, Tarapur, Roha-Nagothane, Manmad, Sinnar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Bhusawal, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Thal-Vaishet.

These cities are considered strategically important and could be targeted in wartime scenarios, hence their inclusion in the drill.

Citizens are urged to cooperate with local authorities during the drills. The mock exercise will also feature air raid siren testing and safety training for civilians and students.

This initiative is a proactive step toward national security and emergency preparedness, with a focus on involving the public in critical defence simulations.
