Maharashtra Government Grants Toll Exemption For MSRTC Buses
Mumbai, September 10, 2025: The Maharashtra government has announced that all Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses will now be exempted from paying toll charges. The decision, taken just ahead of the festive travel rush, is expected to ease the financial load on the corporation while providing indirect benefits to passengers.
Until now, MSRTC’s popular E-Shivneri luxury buses on the Pune-Mumbai route had to pay steep toll fees — ₹148 on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, ₹140 on the old highway, and ₹530 on the Atal Setu bridge, for each one-way trip. This meant round-trip costs of about ₹1,404 per bus per day on the highway and ₹5,810 on the Atal Setu route. With hundreds of buses making daily journeys, toll expenses had become a significant burden.
The waiver is projected to save MSRTC nearly ₹63 lakh per month, or around ₹2 lakh every day, particularly benefiting its high-demand routes such as Pune-Mumbai.
The exemption will bring down operational costs considerably. The daily savings can now be redirected towards improving services and enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.
The step also addresses a long-pending demand from MSRTC, which has faced financial challenges for years.
