Mumbai: In response to the ongoing heatwave and its impact on students’ health, the Maharashtra government has revised school timings across the state. The School Education Department has issued new guidelines to ensure student safety and minimize health risks caused by extreme temperatures.

According to the revised schedule, all primary schools will now function from 7:00 AM to 11:15 AM, while secondary schools will operate from 7:00 AM to 11:45 AM. The change aims to prevent students from being exposed to intense heat during peak afternoon hours.

Several organisations had urged the government to shift school timings to morning hours, and many districts had already implemented similar measures. To maintain uniformity across the state, the government has now set standard timings, with provisions for modifications based on local conditions. Any such adjustments will require approval from the Chief Executive Officer of the respective district.
