Mumbai, August 21, 2025 – The Maharashtra cabinet has approved the construction of a 25-kilometre elevated road connecting Thane to the upcoming Navi Mumbai Airport. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The elevated corridor aims to provide faster and more efficient connectivity for commuters and businesses in the region, easing travel times and boosting economic activity.

In addition to the elevated road, the state also cleared several major infrastructure projects, including:

  • Metro Line 11: A 16-km underground metro stretch from Wadala Depot to Gateway of India, estimated to cost ₹24,000 crore, with funding support from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Key stations will include Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Chowk and Horniman Circle.
  • New Railway Lines: Additional lines on the Pune-Lonavala route to improve connectivity and reduce congestion.
  • Urban Development Initiatives: Approval of a new township and ring road in Nagpur and further expansion of Pune Metro under Phase 1 with stations at Balajinagar, Bibwewadi, Swargate, and Katraj.

Fadnavis stated these initiatives would modernise transport networks and accelerate Maharashtra’s urban growth.
