The Maharashtra government has begun the recruitment process for over 600 full-time teacher posts in 15 universities across the state. A proposal has been sent to the governor, and approval is expected by June 2025.

Initially, the state government considered recruiting teachers through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), but this approach was deemed likely to cause significant delays, potentially affecting education in universities and colleges. Instead, efforts will be made to conduct the recruitment process at the university level.

The recruitment drive aims to address the challenges faced by the education department in appointing teachers due to issues like reservations and eligibility criteria. In the past, there have been allegations of malpractices in the recruitment process, leading to demands for a separate independent recruitment board.

In a related development, students from the Maratha community have been given an extra two months to submit their caste certificates for admissions, following issues caused by the mandatory submission of EWS certificates.

The governor’s office has instructed public universities to explore faculty recruitment possibilities through the MPSC or a separate independent recruitment board. The current selection and appointment process for teaching and non-teaching staff has been put on hold until further notice.
