Maharashtra Govt May Soon Allow Retired Employees To Work Until Age 65 On Contract Basis
Mumbai, June 11, 2025 – In a major decision, the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra has announced that retired government and semi-government employees will now be eligible for re-employment on a contractual basis until the age of 65. This move is aimed at addressing the growing burden of vacant posts in various departments.
The state government has officially declared this policy, which provides an opportunity for those who have already retired from government service to return to work. Moving forward, vacant positions will be filled through contract appointments, helping ease staff shortages in administrative operations.
To implement this policy, the government will invite applications through public advertisements, allowing retired employees to apply for available contractual roles in departments where manpower is urgently needed.
This decision is expected to bring relief to many retirees and also boost the functioning of departments struggling with understaffing. More detailed guidelines and procedures regarding the contractual hiring process are expected to be released soon.
