Maharashtra News: Over 5 Lakh Consumers Join MSEDCL’s ‘Go-Green’ Scheme, Saving ₹6 Crore Annually
Mumbai, June 30, 2025:
Over 5 lakh environmentally conscious electricity consumers in Maharashtra have enrolled in Mahavitaran’s (MSEDCL) ‘Go-Green’ initiative, choosing to receive electricity bills via email and SMS instead of printed copies. This move has collectively saved consumers ₹6.04 crore annually.
As of June 30, 2025, a total of 5,03,795 low-tension (LT) category customers have joined the scheme. Each participating consumer receives an upfront ₹120 annual discount on their electricity bill for opting out of paper bills—an incentive aimed at promoting eco-friendly practices. Previously, the discount was spread across monthly bills.
The region-wise participation is led by Western Maharashtra with 2.01 lakh consumers saving ₹2.42 crore, followed by Konkan (1.13 lakh consumers, ₹1.36 crore), North Maharashtra (70,226, ₹84.27 lakh), Vidarbha (63,731, ₹76.47 lakh), and Marathwada (55,351, ₹66.42 lakh).
Mahavitaran Chairman and Managing Director Lokesh Chandra has urged more customers to support the digital and green shift by enrolling via the MSEDCL mobile app or the official website [www.mahadiscom.in](http://www.mahadiscom.in).
In addition to the ₹120 discount, consumers who pay their bills online within seven days of the billing date get a 1% prompt payment discount. All bills—current and the previous 11 months—are digitally accessible and downloadable.
This initiative not only reduces environmental impact but also streamlines billing and payment for consumers across the state.
