Pune, May 29, 2025: In preparation for the annual Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage, the Maharashtra government has announced a series of significant welfare measures to ensure the safety and convenience of Warkaris (pilgrims). Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde declared that group insurance coverage will be provided to participating devotees this year, along with the continuation of essential medical services.

The announcements followed a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai, where challenges faced by Warkaris and preparations for the pilgrimage were thoroughly discussed.

Given the recent heavy rains, Deputy CM Shinde directed that damaged Wari routes be urgently repaired using gravel, crushed stones, and asphalt. Additionally, pilgrims will be provided with clean drinking water, power supply connections, and waterproof tents at the Palkhi (palanquin) halts. As in previous years, toll exemption will be granted to vehicles traveling for the Wari.

Health Services Strengthened:
This year, as in the past, large-scale health camps will be organized by the state’s Health Department. Cardiac ambulances and temporary ICU setups will be made available in Pandharpur. Health Minister Prakash Abitkar has been instructed to personally review these arrangements on-site. Furthermore, fully equipped ambulances will be stationed with major palanquins departing from each district throughout the pilgrimage.

Support for Accident Victims, Improved Coordination:
The government has committed to providing assistance to the families of pilgrims who lost their lives during last year’s Wari. To improve coordination with law enforcement, a nodal officer will be appointed. The administration will also ensure that traditional rituals and meals are conducted without delay, minimizing disruptions along the route.

Deputy CM Shinde emphasized that this year’s Wari will continue the mission of being a “Clean Wari, Pure Wari, Green Wari”, with full support from the government for all necessary arrangements.
