Mumbai, 6 August 2024:** The Department of Cultural Affairs has announced a competition to recognize outstanding public Ganeshotsav celebrations across Maharashtra for the 2024 festival. Inaugurated by Shri V.K. Krishna Menon on August 4, 1962, this year’s competition will award cash prizes of ₹5 lakh, ₹2.5 lakh, and ₹1 lakh to the top three public Ganeshotsav mandals in the state.

Cultural Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar has urged more mandals to participate by submitting their applications by August 31. The festival starts on September 7, and the selection will be based on evaluations and documentation from 44 recommended mandals across Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, Pune, Thane, and other districts.

Awards will also be given to the remaining 41 mandals with ₹25,000 and a certificate each. Mandals must apply through the email [email protected] of P.L. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy, Mumbai.
