A state-appointed panel will conduct comprehensive inspections of all 30 integrated townships across Maharashtra, starting next year. The inspections, which were delayed by a year, aim to assess each township’s water availability, construction progress, amenity spaces, and economical housing provisions.

The panel, formed in early 2023, has already inspected two projects in Nagpur and found delays in delivering promised amenity spaces. “We proposed more checks, which will be placed before the state government,” said a senior town planning department official. “The new UDD minister will evaluate our suggestions, and we will implement these checks during our visits next year.”

Of the 30 townships, 13 are located in Pune district, followed by the Konkan region. Currently, 13 townships are under construction, and developers must obtain clearance from the irrigation department for water allocation.

Residents have raised concerns about the lack of basic civic amenities, including water supply. “Integrated townships promoted by the government are being completely ignored when it comes to basic civic amenities,” said a resident of Hinjawadi. Another resident emphasized the need for water conservation practices, such as rainwater harvesting.

The committee will register complaints regarding inadequate potable water and submit them to the state government, along with assessments of construction progress and compliance with the integrated township policy.
