Maharashtra to Start Basic Military Training for Students from Class 1
Mumbai, June 3, 2025 — In a landmark move, the Maharashtra government has announced that school students will begin receiving basic military training from Class 1 onwards. The initiative, announced by State School Education Minister Dada Bhuse on Monday, is aimed at promoting patriotism, discipline, and physical fitness among children from an early age.
According to the minister, the training will be led by retired army personnel, supported by school sports teachers, NCC (National Cadet Corps) officers, and Scouts and Guides. “This decision has been taken to help students develop a love for the country and healthy daily habits like regular exercise and disciplined living,” Bhuse stated.
The proposal has received support from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and the government plans to involve over 2.5 lakh ex-servicemen across Maharashtra to help implement the program effectively.
The announcement follows rising tensions between India and Pakistan, especially after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and India’s counteraction — ‘Operation Sindoor’ — on May 7, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
In addition, the country recently held civil defence drills, including ‘Operation Abhyas’ on May 7 and ‘Operation Shield’ on May 31, conducted in several border states. These drills were designed to prepare civilians and authorities for emergency situations.
The military training plan for school students aligns with India’s broader national security efforts, focusing on preparedness and resilience starting at the grassroots level.
