Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Assures Action on Revised Cab Rates Implementation
On the 16th of February, representatives from the Indian Gig Workers’ Front convened with Maharashtra’s Transport Commissioner to address pressing concerns impacting cab drivers.
Dr. Keshav Kshirsagar, President of the Indian Gig Workers’ Front, disclosed details of a meeting held at the Transport Commissionerate in Mumbai. Present were Team IGF Cabs, Maharashtra State Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar, Deputy Transport Commissioner Jitendra Patil, and Deputy Commissioner of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Pune, Sanjeev Bhor.
The focal point of discussion was the challenges faced by rickshaw and cab drivers, particularly the non-enforcement of revised fixed fares. The Commissioner was urged to take action promptly.
Assurances were given by the transport commissioner to swiftly address the matter.
Key figures including Dr. Keshav Kshirsagar, Major Ghuge, and Ashok Dhakane attended the meeting representing the Indian Gig Workers Front.
Earlier this February, cab drivers in Pune, in collaboration with the Indian Gig Front Cabs (IGF Cabs) Association, announced a strike scheduled for the 20th of February 2024. The strike was called due to several cab companies’ failure to adhere to revised cab fares mandated by the Pune District Collector.
Despite operating without valid licenses, no punitive measures have been taken against these companies. Consequently, cab drivers, facing financial hardship, plan to stage a vigorous protest and indefinite strike at RTO Pune starting February 20, 2024.
