Maharashtra: Unity Mall, Coral Reef Tourism, and More: State Reviews Mega Projects Backed by Centre
Mumbai, July 2, 2025 – A high-level meeting was held today to review the progress of various development projects being implemented across Maharashtra under the 15th Finance Commission. During the session, officials were directed to ensure all works are completed on time, with utmost focus on quality and long-term impact.
“The Centre is extending full cooperation for the implementation of these projects, which are designed with a vision for the next 100 years of the state’s development. Officers were instructed to coordinate with central authorities to ensure timely availability and utilisation of funds allocated under the Finance Commission, with a goal to fully utilise the grants by the end of the current financial year. It was emphasised that not a single rupee meant for Maharashtra’s development should go unutilised,” said Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Key projects reviewed include:
- Creation of an artificial coral reef using decommissioned Indian Navy ship INS Guldar near Sindhudurg coast, to develop world-class scuba diving, submarine experiences, and an underwater museum.
- Construction of a Unity Mall near the international airport at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai.
- Development of the ‘Ram-Kal-Path’ in Nashik.
- Establishment of hostels for working women in Thane, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kalyan-Dombivli, and Solapur.
- Projects under departments such as Urban Development, Rural Development, Disaster Management, and Public Health.
- Cultural heritage conservation initiatives.
- Forest and wildlife management programs.
- Progress on the Rewas-Redi Coastal Highway.
- Housing schemes for police personnel.
The meeting concluded with a firm commitment from the government to remove any obstacles in the completion of these projects and ensure their high-quality execution within stipulated timelines.
