Maharashtra Weather Alert: 48 Hours of Instability Ahead as Unseasonal Rain Looms Over State

Weather Alert: Thunderstorms, Lightning and Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Several Regions; Heat Wave to Hit East India from May 10
Pune: Maharashtra is once again under the threat of unseasonal weather, with the next 48 hours predicted to bring significant atmospheric changes. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for isolated rain, thunderstorms, and a potential drop in temperature across several regions.
Heat Intensifies Despite Unseasonal Showers
While certain coastal areas including Mumbai and its suburbs witnessed partly cloudy skies over the past 24 hours, interior regions such as Marathwada and Vidarbha experienced a sharp spike in temperatures. Akola and Malegaon reported mercury levels soaring past 43°C to 44°C, intensifying heatwave-like conditions.
Unseasonal Rains Expected in East Vidarbha
According to the IMD, moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal are moving towards the eastern parts of Vidarbha, increasing the likelihood of unseasonal rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms. Districts including Amravati, Wardha, Nagpur, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli are expected to be impacted over the next three days. There’s also a possibility of hailstorms in certain areas.
Rain Alert for South-Central Maharashtra and Marathwada
On Sunday, parts of South-Central Maharashtra such as Kolhapur, Sangli, and Solapur may receive light to moderate rainfall. The forecast also extends to Marathwada, where districts like Dharashiv (Osmanabad) and Latur are on alert for scattered rain and thunder activity.
Pune Sees Temporary Relief
After enduring a three-day heatwave, Pune saw a slight dip in temperature on Thursday. However, weather experts caution that the relief is temporary. A rise in temperatures is expected to resume in the coming days despite a marginal increase in humidity levels. Overall, the mercury is likely to remain above seasonal averages.
