Mumbai, September 27, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather warning for Maharashtra, predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several regions on Sunday, September 28. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant as multiple districts are under red, orange, and yellow alerts.

According to the forecast, heavy downpours are expected in Konkan, Western Maharashtra, Marathwada, North Maharashtra, and Vidarbha. The IMD has sounded red alerts for Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and Nashik (ghat regions) due to the likelihood of extremely heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning.

An orange alert has been issued for Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur (ghat areas), Satara (ghat areas), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and parts of Nashik, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Districts including Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur are under a yellow alert for moderate to heavy rain.

In Marathwada, apart from Sambhajinagar, districts like Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv are likely to witness thunderstorms with heavy showers, all under a yellow alert. Similarly, North Maharashtra districts of Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, and Ahilyanagar are also under yellow alert, while Nashik city faces an orange alert.

In Vidarbha, Akola, Buldhana, and Washim may see heavy rainfall, whereas Amravati, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Bhandara, Wardha, and Yavatmal are expected to receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms. All Vidarbha districts are on yellow alert.

Over the past few days, unrelenting rainfall has already caused flooding and crop damage across Maharashtra. With fresh warnings in place, authorities have appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay in safe locations, and follow instructions from local administration.
