Mumbai, September 28, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert for Maharashtra, warning of widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. On Sunday, September 28, several regions including Konkan, Western Maharashtra, Marathwada, North Maharashtra, and Vidarbha are expected to experience intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

As per the IMD forecast, red alerts have been issued for five districts — Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and parts of Pune (ghat regions), along with Nashik ghat areas. These districts are likely to witness extremely heavy rainfall with thunderstorms. Citizens in these areas have been urged to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety advisories.

Orange alerts have been declared in Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Satara (ghat regions), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Nashik city, where heavy to very heavy rain is predicted. Meanwhile, 26 districts including Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Ahilyanagar, Akola, Buldhana, and Washim have been placed under yellow alerts, indicating moderate to heavy showers with lightning activity.

In Vidarbha, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is likely across Amravati, Bhandara, Gondia, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Wardha, and Yavatmal.

The IMD has highlighted that many parts of the state are already facing flood-like conditions due to continuous rainfall in recent days.

With the possibility of extreme rainfall on September 28, authorities have appealed to citizens to shift to safe locations if needed, avoid waterlogged areas, and strictly follow instructions issued by the local administration.
