Maharashtra Weather Alert: Rains to Intensify in Vidarbha and Marathwada, Flood Fears Persist
Low-pressure system over Bay of Bengal likely to bring heavy showers; citizens urged to remain alert
The weather crisis in Maharashtra is far from over. A fresh low-pressure area has developed over the Bay of Bengal, and its impact is expected to bring heavy rains to several parts of the state between September 26 and 28. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the monsoon will not withdraw from Maharashtra before October 5.
On September 26, South Vidarbha and adjoining Marathwada districts, including Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Yavatmal, and Nanded, may see increased rainfall and cloudy conditions from noon onward. The rest of Vidarbha and Marathwada are also likely to experience cloudy skies with light to moderate showers.
In recent days, heavy rainfall has already battered several regions. While downpours in Ahilyanagar and Jalgaon provided brief relief, floodwaters continue to disrupt life across parts of Marathwada. Many villages remain submerged, houses and farmlands are inundated, and agricultural activity has taken a severe hit. The threat of rivers and streams overflowing continues, particularly in South Marathwada, Konkan, and western Maharashtra, where dam storage levels in the Ghats have risen sharply.
The Agriculture Department has appealed to farmers to safeguard harvested crops against wind and rain, stressing the importance of timely storage to avoid further losses. The Disaster Management Department has also urged citizens to remain vigilant in the face of worsening conditions.

Top state leaders, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, have visited flood-hit areas such as Ujani, Aurad Shahajani in Latur, Nimgaon in Solapur, and Bhum Paranda in Osmanabad district. Opposition leaders too inspected the damage and assured affected villagers of support.
For now, Maharashtra remains on high alert as weather models point to more rain in the coming days, raising the risk of fresh flooding in vulnerable districts.
