Maharashtra Weather Update: Heatwave Alert for Pune, Nashik, Jalgaon, Nandurbar; IMD Warns of Soaring Temperatures in Next 48 Hours
After days of unseasonal rain and hailstorms that caused severe crop damage across Maharashtra, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has now issued a heatwave warning for multiple districts in the state. According to the latest forecast, temperatures in Kokan, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada are expected to rise by 3°C to 4°C over the next 48 hours, while Vidarbha may witness a 4°C to 6°C increase in maximum temperatures over the next five days.
IMD scientist K.S. Hosalikar shared a weather update on social media, cautioning residents of Pune, Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, and Nandurbar to stay alert as temperatures may exceed 40°C in North Maharashtra and Northwest India in the coming 48 to 72 hours. He urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during the heatwave.
Rising Heat and Humidity in Konkan
The IMD has predicted intense heat and humid weather conditions in Konkan due to winds coming from the east. Districts including Ratnagiri, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, and Sindhudurg have been placed under a yellow alert for rising temperatures and sticky conditions. Some parts of Sindhudurg may also receive light rainfall, though the dominant weather pattern will be hot and humid winds sweeping the region.
Rainfall Alert Still Active in Select Regions
While the unseasonal rain and hailstorm warnings have reduced, certain parts of Maharashtra remain under alert. For April 5, the IMD has issued a yellow rainfall alert for Latur, Dharashiv, Solapur, Sangli, and Kolhapur. Light rain is also expected in parts of Pune, Satara, Sindhudurg, and Ahilyanagar.
However, other regions are likely to experience a sharp rise in temperatures. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, there will be no major change in maximum temperatures across the state over the next 24 hours, but from April 6 onwards, a noticeable temperature spike of 3°C to 4°C is anticipated in Konkan, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada, followed by Vidarbha’s 4°C to 6°C rise in the next five days.
