Maharashtra Weather Update: Heavy Rains Lash Mumbai, Yellow Alert Issued for Ghats
Pune, July 15, 2025: Mumbai and its suburbs witnessed heavy rainfall on Monday as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The department had forecast cloudy skies and moderate showers over the next 24 hours, prompting a yellow alert for Nashik and the ghat regions.
After a brief lull in rainfall across many parts of Maharashtra last week, showers made a strong comeback in Mumbai, surrounding suburbs, and various other districts. Strong winds are also expected in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, North Madhya Maharashtra, and North Konkan over the next two days due to low-pressure areas over northwest Madhya Pradesh and the Bay of Bengal moving westwards.
In Nashik city, torrential rains lashed several areas on Monday afternoon, recording 31.2 mm of rainfall in just two hours. The sudden downpour flooded streets, leaving motorists struggling to navigate waterlogged roads. Surrounding rural areas also reported heavy showers.
The IMD has advised residents in ghat areas to remain cautious as the yellow alert remains in place. Meanwhile, Trimbakeshwar and Peth talukas received 16.4 mm and 16.5 mm of rainfall respectively, while the district recorded an average of 3.2 mm rainfall over 24 hours.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to respond to any rain-related emergencies in low-lying and flood-prone zones.
