Maharashtra Weather Update: IMD Predicts Below Average Rainfall In August, More Showers Expected In SeptemberÂ
Mumbai | August 1, 2025: With nearly half of the monsoon season already over, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its updated forecast for the remaining monsoon months of August and September. While the overall monsoon across India is expected to be above normal, Maharashtra may receive below-average rainfall in August.
According to the IMD, the country recorded 106% of average rainfall (474 mm) during the first two months of the monsoon—June and July. Maharashtra, in particular, received 103% of its average rainfall during this period, and 101% in July alone.
For the upcoming two months, August and September, the IMD expects rainfall to remain above 106% of the long-period average across most of the country, excluding coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, and parts of Northeast India.
However, in Maharashtra, the rainfall for August is likely to be below normal, with the state expected to receive less than the national average range of 94% to 106%. The IMD’s long-range forecast still projects overall above-normal rainfall for the entire four-month monsoon season across India.
These forecasts are crucial for farmers, urban planners, and disaster management agencies as they prepare for the remaining monsoon months.
