Maharashtra Weather Update: Red Alert Issued for Mumbai and Raigad, Heavy Rain Forecast for Next Four Days

Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra are expected to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next four days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A red alert has been issued for Mumbai and Raigad, while Thane and Palghar districts are also likely to experience intense showers.
The IMD has predicted continuous rainfall across Mumbai and its suburbs, with waterlogging already reported in several low-lying areas. A red alert remains in place for August 18 and 19 in Mumbai, Raigad, and Thane, with citizens advised to avoid stepping out unless necessary. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged residents to follow safety guidelines and cooperate with authorities.
- August 18–19: Red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar with the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
- August 20: Orange alert issued for Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, and Raigad.
- August 21: Heavy rain expected in isolated parts of Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, and Raigad.
- August 22: Light to moderate rainfall likely in these districts.
Meanwhile, Marathwada has been severely hit by heavy rain over the past three days, disrupting normal life. Reports indicate six fatalities, the death of 107 cattle, and the collapse of over 350 houses and cattle sheds. Crops on more than 1.11 lakh hectares of farmland have been damaged, affecting nearly 1.2 lakh farmers across 698 villages.
Authorities have urged residents across Maharashtra, especially in red alert zones, to stay indoors, avoid waterlogged areas, and remain alert for further updates.
