Maharashtra Weather Update: ‘Shakti’ Cyclone Heads Toward Oman; Heavy Rain, Humidity, and Heat to Grip State Over Next 4 Days
Mumbai, October 7, 2025: The Shakti cyclone, which formed over the Arabian Sea, is now moving towards Oman, but its aftereffects continue to influence weather patterns across Maharashtra. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of fluctuating conditions — a mix of heavy rainfall, humidity, and heat — across different parts of the state over the next four days.
While coastal Konkan has been placed under a yellow alert, regions of Vidarbha are expected to experience intense heat. The dual impact of a low-pressure belt created by the cyclone and a cyclonic circulation from Pakistan has led to unstable weather patterns in Maharashtra.
Shakti Cyclone Weakens, But Impact Persists
According to IMD forecasts, the Shakti cyclone will weaken further by October 7 as it progresses toward Oman. However, the system has triggered a low-pressure zone over the Arabian Sea, extending into Gujarat due to the cyclonic circulation from Pakistan. This convergence is expected to cause thunderstorms, lightning, and localized downpours in parts of the state.
Rain and Thunderstorms for Konkan
Coastal districts including Palghar and Thane are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and lightning. Hence, IMD has issued a yellow alert for these areas.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts, with residents in coastal belts advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions.
Vidarbha to Face Scorching Heat
IMD expert Dr. Supreet stated that the withdrawal phase of the monsoon has begun in Maharashtra. On October 7, heavy rain has been forecast for most parts of the state except Vidarbha, where temperatures are likely to soar under clear skies.
Four-Day Weather Outlook
- October 8: Rain likely across Maharashtra except Vidarbha; thunderstorms expected in Konkan.
- October 9–10: Light rainfall with humid and hot conditions, leading to increased discomfort.
- October 11–12: Rainfall expected to recede completely, with rising temperatures and intensified heat.
La Niña Effect to Influence Upcoming Winter
Meteorologists also noted the potential influence of the La Niña phenomenon over the Pacific Ocean, which could bring colder winters this year. IMD predicts extremes in weather patterns — excess rainfall, intense cold, and high heat spells — with the ongoing “October heat” likely to feel as severe as May in some regions.
