On one hand, Tata, Mahindra, and Hyundai have launched their electric cars in the Indian car market. At the same time, the country’s largest car seller Maruti Suzuki is also gearing up to launch its first electric vehicle. 

In the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024, Toshihiro Suzuki, the Managing Director and Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, announced that a new model would be introduced into the market from Suzuki’s production center in Gujarat by the end of this year. This model is expected to be sold not only in India but also in Japan and several European countries.

Maruti Suzuki will launch its first electric car in the new financial year 2024-2025. The company has been working on an electric SUV for quite some time now, with its concept model dubbed the eVX. Currently, this car is in the testing phase which has been seen many times. The car is being manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur location in Gujarat.

According to the company, this electric SUV will come with high features. It will be powered by a 60kWh battery pack. According to reports, this electric car will get a range of up to 550 kilometers once fully charged. This electric SUV is being built on a new platform.

Maruti Suzuki has unveiled its first electric car at the 2023 Auto Expo. So the design of the car has come to the fore. The front has been designed with a flanked-off grille flanked by distributed LED headlight units in an attempt to give the car a sporty look. LED fog lamps with silver skid plates are provided.

The length of Maruti eVX SUV will be 4.3 meters, its concept model has been launched in this size. Its concept model had a width of 1.8 m, a height of 1.6 m, and a wheelbase of 2.7 m. The production model of the car is also expected to be in the same shape. After its launch in India, the Maruti Suzuki eVX will compete with the Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV, and Hyundai’s upcoming electric Creta.

The company aims to increase its production in the Indian market to 40 million units by 2030. In the initial stages, starting from 2022, the company has declared an investment of ₹13,000 crores to kickstart the Kharkhoda production project. This project is set to be operational by 2025, producing an annual output of 250,000 vehicles in the initial years.

As per the information available earlier, the company aims to sell 60% of the targeted 30 lakh vehicles in India. Among these, 35% will be CNG models, while the remaining sales will consist of fully electric, biofuel, and flex-fuel models.
