Software engineer Maitri Mangal shares her monthly expenses in viral reel; holds degree from Binghamton University

Maitri Mangal, an Indian software engineer working at Google in New York City, has recently gone viral for sharing a candid breakdown of her monthly expenses in one of the world’s most expensive cities. With a salary package ranging between ₹1.2 crore and ₹1.6 crore per year (USD 150,000–200,000), Mangal’s video has sparked conversations about the real cost of living abroad.

In a reel shared with podcaster Kushal Lodha, Mangal opens up about her monthly spending, revealing that she shells out nearly USD 5,000 (around ₹4.2 lakh) every month. Of this, about USD 3,000 (₹2.5 lakh) goes toward rent alone. The remaining USD 1,000–2,000 (₹85,000–₹1.7 lakh) covers groceries, takeout, entertainment, and daily expenses, while transportation adds another USD 100–200 (₹8,500–₹17,000) per month.

Unlike many high-earning Indian professionals in tech, Mangal isn’t from an IIT or IIM background. She completed her Bachelor’s in Computer Science at Binghamton University in New York. Before joining Google in November 2022, she worked as a software engineer at Bloomberg.
