Passengers on SpiceJet flight SG-1080 from Goa to Pune experienced anxious moments on July 1 when an interior window frame dislodged mid-air, sparking concern, especially among those seated nearby.

Despite the incident, cabin pressure remained stable and passenger safety was not compromised, the airline said. The dislodged part was identified as a non-structural trim component meant for shade, and not critical to the aircraft’s integrity as reported by Indian Express.

Passenger Mandar Sawant recounted the incident, saying, “About half an hour after take-off, the window near a woman with a baby just popped out. She got scared; it was concerning even though the protective outer layer stayed intact. The crew moved them to another seat and tried to refit the window, but it looked fragile.”

The flight, scheduled for 5:20 pm, departed later at 6:55 pm. Sawant also noted there had been no prior communication from the airline about the delay, which he later learned followed “technical issues” from the previous day.

In a statement, a SpiceJet spokesperson clarified, “A cosmetic window frame on one of our Q400 aircraft became loose during flight. It did not affect cabin pressurisation or passenger safety. The frame was fixed upon landing as per standard procedures.”

The airline emphasised that the aircraft’s multiple pressure-bearing window layers ensure safety even in the rare event of a superficial part coming loose.
