MIDC Serves Notices to Three Developers Over Traffic Hazards in Hinjewadi
Government agencies act after rising accidents due to muddy, slippery roads
The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has issued notices to three major developers — Gera Developments, Godrej Properties, and VTP Realty — for creating traffic hazards in Hinjewadi Phase-III. The action comes after multiple accidents were reported on the roads of Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, where vehicles skidded on mud left behind by construction trucks.
According to MIDC executive engineer R. G. Totla, vehicles carrying excavated material and ready-mix concrete (RMC) from these sites entered public roads without washing their tyres, leading to mud accumulation and dangerously slippery conditions. In the last few days, four to five two-wheeler riders slipped on these roads, raising serious safety concerns.
The notices direct developers to install tyre wash pits at their sites and ensure no vehicle leaves without cleaning its wheels. They must also clean roads every evening to prevent mud build-up. Along with this, MIDC has written to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), urging strict monitoring and further action.
Public anger has been rising, especially after a tragic accident last month when a young girl died after being crushed by a cement mixer. Citizens have been demanding accountability from both developers and authorities. NCP MP Supriya Sule also highlighted the poor road conditions in the Megapolis Saffron area of Hinjewadi, stressing that repeated complaints have gone unheard and immediate measures are needed.
Responding to the notices, Gera Developments stated they are already following rules laid down by the MPCB, including road cleaning and wheel washing. VTP Realty claimed they have not yet received a notice but assured that all government instructions would be followed once served.
