Midnight Chaos in Pune: Mundhwa Residents Clash With Pub Owner, Demand Permanent Closure
Pune, August 18, 2025: Tension flared up in Mundhwa late Sunday night when a dispute outside a pub spiraled into chaos, drawing angry reactions from local residents. The incident occurred outside Sway All Day Bar, where drunken misbehavior triggered heated arguments, a scuffle, and eventually strong protests.
According to locals, the trouble began when an intoxicated customer smashed beer bottles on the road and physically assaulted a resident. The situation quickly escalated, prompting several residents to confront the pub owner. Instead of addressing their grievances, the owner allegedly threatened the locals, further enraging the crowd.
Led by former corporator Gauri Pingale, residents gathered in large numbers, shouting slogans and forcing the pub to shut down. Police rushed to the spot and managed to prevent damage to the establishment by stopping the mob at the entrance. The pub was temporarily evacuated while officers tried to pacify the residents.
Frustrated with repeated disturbances from pubs and bars in the area, residents later marched to the Mundhwa police station, demanding that Sway All Day Bar be permanently shut down. Following their complaint, police registered a case against the pub owner.
Locals have expressed growing anger over the rising pub culture in Pune, citing late-night noise, unruly behavior by drunken patrons, and frequent violations of rules. They claim that despite past crackdowns after the infamous hit-and-run case last year, enforcement has weakened, leaving residents to bear the brunt of the nuisance.
