A video recently posted to Instagram has sparked widespread criticism online after a woman was seen smiling and recording footage from inside an Air India aircraft—just a day after a horrific plane crash in Ahmedabad that took hundreds of lives.

In the video, the woman pans the camera across the nearly empty flight cabin while smiling and giggling. She also added a caption that read in part, “Flight Air India AI171 crashed in Ahmedabad. I am not sure if people are going to trust Boeing!”

The timing and tone of her content deeply upset many viewers, who found the cheerful demeanor inappropriate in light of the heartbreaking incident involving the same airline.

Air India flight AI171 crashed shortly after takeoff in Ahmedabad, slamming into a medical college’s hostel mess. The devastating incident claimed the lives of 241 out of the 242 people on board, in addition to casualties on the ground where the aircraft struck the building.

Among the passengers were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese nationals, and 1 Canadian national. In a miraculous twist, a single passenger—a British national of Indian origin—survived the crash.

Air India, expressing its grief via social media, stated:

“Air India remains in mourning on the tragic loss of 241 passengers and crew members aboard flight AI171. Our hearts are with the families, loved ones, and communities affected by the accident.”

The airline also confirmed that the process of handing over the victims’ remains and personal effects to their families was underway, with support for repatriation and coordination with authorities continuing.

Public Outrage: ‘Have Some Respect’

The woman’s video did not sit well with the public. Some users expressed disappointment, while others didn’t hold back their anger at what they perceived as a grossly insensitive act.

One commenter angrily wrote, “Bana liya content? Mil gye views?” questioning her motives and accusing her of creating content for clout in the wake of a tragedy.

Another stated, “What’s so funny about this video? Seriously, have some respect for those who died,” echoing the sentiments of many others who felt the video crossed a line.

A more restrained voice added, “Please be considerate. Have a safe journey, but think about the timing of what you’re sharing.”

A deeply dismayed viewer shared, “I can’t believe there are people grinning ear to ear even after witnessing such a tragic event.”

And finally, someone remarked on the state of social media culture: “Attention seeking is at its peak. I can’t believe people take this as content and are happy about it.”

While the woman may not have intended to offend, her video has stirred a broader conversation around the limits of content creation—especially when juxtaposed with grief, loss, and national tragedy.
