On a recent IndiGo flight from Delhi to Lucknow, passenger Daksh Rathi experienced a terrifying moment when his seat unexpectedly began to sway after takeoff. Rathi shared a video of the incident on Instagram, where he described the experience as feeling like a “mini heart attack.” The airline responded with an apology, stating that they took his feedback very seriously.
In the video, Rathi, along with two other passengers, is shown sitting in a row of seats that suddenly jerk backward. Recalling the moment, Rathi explained how frightening it was, saying, “As soon as the flight took off, everyone was engaged in their own activities when, without warning, the seats jerked back. It was a horrible feeling, like a free fall in midair… it truly felt like a mini heart attack.”
Daksh Rathi later mentioned that he had never encountered anything like this before, calling it a first-time experience. He noted that the seats seemed to literally swing back and forth, which was unsettling. Rathi also pointed out that while the incident might not seem too serious, it could be a significant issue for elderly passengers or those with health problems. He commended the crew for their quick response, as they swiftly relocated him to an available seat and arranged for maintenance staff to inspect the situation during deboarding.
In a response to the incident, IndiGo commented on Rathi’s video, apologizing for the inconvenience he faced. The airline explained that the seat movement was a rare anomaly, as the seats are designed with a locking mechanism. They assured Rathi that his concerns would be thoroughly investigated and expressed gratitude for his feedback. IndiGo also highlighted that the crew had responded promptly by offering him an alternate seat and reaffirmed their commitment to passenger safety and comfort, stating, “We understand our crew responded promptly to address the situation and provided you with an alternate seat.
