MNS Protests in Pune Against Rising Crimes, Slams Police Over Women’s Safety
Pune, July 4, 2025: A shocking incident in Kondhwa Budruk on Wednesday, where a man posing as a delivery agent allegedly raped a 22-year-old woman, has sparked outrage among citizens and political groups. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has condemned the increasing crimes against women in Pune and held the police administration responsible for failing to ensure public safety.
MNS leaders highlighted that in recent months, Pune has witnessed a disturbing rise in criminal incidents, including the Kondhwa rape case, the sexual assault of a minor in Daund during a Palkhi procession, an assault on a 26-year-old woman inside a bus at Swargate, and several cases of teachers exploiting students. These incidents have created a climate of fear in the city, with residents expressing concerns over their safety even within their own homes.

“Maharashtra’s second-largest city is becoming a hub of criminal activities, and women are no longer safe here. Instead of instilling fear among criminals, the Pune police seem to have allowed fear to spread among ordinary citizens,” said MNS leader Rajendra Babu Wagaskar.
The MNS has demanded immediate and strict action from Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis to curb such crimes. On Tuesday, party workers led by Rajendra Babu Wagaskar, Pune city president Sainath Babar, and MNS Students’ Wing president Mahesh Bhoibar staged a protest to question the administration.
However, the demonstration was disrupted as police detained several MNS workers, alleging misuse of police force to suppress dissent. The MNS has vowed to continue its agitation against the rising crime rate and incidents of sexual violence in Pune.
