Travelling without a valid ticket is becoming a growing problem for Indian Railways, affecting both passengers and staff. A recent incident involving a mother and her daughter in a First AC coach has brought the issue into the spotlight. Instead of cooperating with the train’s Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE), the duo argued, leading to a heated encounter that was recorded on video and shared online.

The video shows the TTE calmly asking the woman to present a valid ticket, to which she admits, “I don’t have a ticket.” She then explains that she only boarded the train with her daughter to use the bathroom. Meanwhile, the daughter defends their actions, claiming, “My brother is a loco pilot, so I’ll travel in First AC without a ticket.”

The daughter’s remark reflects a sense of entitlement that many online viewers criticised. The video caption posted on X (formerly Twitter) read, “Yesterday, it was a government school teacher; today, it’s the sister of a loco pilot. It looks like government employees and their family members believe Indian Railways is their personal property. First, travelling without a ticket & even arguing with the TTE when caught, and then playing the victim by alleging ‘misbehaviour’ has become routine. She has kept a Starbucks mobile cover to flaunt her wealth, but is too poor to buy a mere ₹10 ticket.”

As the interaction continues, the situation escalates further when the woman asks the TTE’s name and brings caste into the conversation, complicating what could have been a simple resolution. Despite the provocation, the TTE remains composed, reminding her that the incident is being recorded and that legal action would follow if she did not cooperate.

A Pattern of Arguments With TTEs

This incident is not isolated. A similar event from Bihar recently made headlines when a woman argued with a TTE and accused him of being rude. In that case, she alleged that the TTE was misbehaving, but the officer pointed out that everything was being recorded and warned that legal action would be taken if she refused to follow the rules. Eventually, the woman was forced to leave the coach, much like in the recent First AC case.

The mother-daughter incident has sparked discussions online about accountability and respect for railway staff. Many viewers criticised the passengers for using personal connections as justification to bypass rules. Others pointed out the growing trend of arguing with TTEs and playing the victim when caught without a ticket. The incident highlights the challenges faced by railway staff in maintaining order while ensuring passenger safety and compliance.

The video of the First AC incident has gone viral, serving as a reminder that rules are the same for everyone, regardless of profession or family connections. While the mother and daughter believed their status could exempt them from paying for a ticket, the TTE calmly enforced the rules, demonstrating the importance of following regulations.
