Former India skipper MS Dhoni has once again etched his name in the record books, becoming the oldest-ever captain in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL)

At 43 years and 278 days, Dhoni took charge of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) midway through IPL 2025, stepping in for Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was ruled out of the season due to an elbow injury.

This milestone surpasses Dhoni’s previous record as the oldest captain in the IPL, which he set during the 2023 season, when he led CSK against Gujarat Titans at the age of 41 years and 326 days.
