Mumbai, July 21, 2025: A 57-year-old passenger from Rajkot was given a new lease on life after he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). Thanks to the swift response of the airport’s medical team, his heartbeat was revived within minutes.

On Thursday, Rahul Rai collapsed near the check-in counter at Terminal-1. Paramedic Komal Sonawane and Dr. Shalini Soundar Pandian from the CSMIA medical unit immediately rushed to the spot and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Using an automated external defibrillator (AED), they delivered two critical shocks that revived his heartbeat and brought him back to consciousness.

Once stabilized, Rai was transported in CSMIA’s advanced life support ambulance to Nanavati Hospital for further medical care. He later expressed his gratitude, saying, “Such emergency response and medical treatment should be available at all airports. It saved my life.”
