Bhavesh Bhinde, the businessman responsible for installing the billboard that collapsed in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area, resulting in the deaths of 16 individuals and injuring over 70 others, has been apprehended in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Bhinde, who had been on the run since the incident, faced charges after the billboard erected by his company collapsed during a storm in Mumbai. He was the wanted accused in the FIR and had been evading authorities. Notably, Bhavesh Bhinde has a criminal history, with over 20 cases against him, including one related to rape.

The massive 120×120-foot hoarding that fell in Ghatkopar on Monday was of such magnitude that it earned a place in the Limca Book of Records. However, the BMC has clarified that billboards larger than 40×40 feet are not permitted as per regulations.

In response to the tragic incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced government support, including covering the medical expenses of the injured and providing Rs 5 lakh in compensation to the families of the deceased.

Furthermore, in light of the Ghatkopar hoarding collapse, the BMC has imposed a ban on new hoardings in Mumbai until further notice. This directive applies to all advertisement boards, whether on government or private premises, as announced by BMC Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani after a meeting with officials from various agencies.

Additionally, the Municipal Corporation Administration has instructed the Railway Administration to remove illegally sized billboards in Ghatkopar to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The arrest of Bhavesh Bhinde marks a significant development in the investigation into the tragic billboard collapse, offering a semblance of justice to the victims and their families.
